Born on March 27, 2011, in Bihar, he first caught the eye at the age of 11 during talent hunts organised by the Bihar Cricket Association. By 13, he was smashing records in age-group tournaments, including a sensational 250+ score in a local league that went viral on social media.

His coach, Romi Kant, who has worked with Vaibhav since he was 9, remembers the first time he saw the boy bat.

“Even at that age, he had this incredible hand-eye coordination and fearlessness. Most kids are scared of fast bowling. Vaibhav wanted to dominate it,” Romi sir told BCCI.tv in a previous interview referenced by the young star.

The family made enormous sacrifices. Vaibhav’s mother, who manages the household, often stayed up late preparing meals and ensuring her son balanced studies with cricket. “She is my biggest support. Even though I told her after Dad, she cried with joy when I called,” Vaibhav shared.

The move to bigger centres, consistent performances in the Ranji Trophy and India A setups, and finally the call-up to the senior T20I squad marked a journey built on talent, discipline, and family backing.

Father’s Emotional Reaction

Sanjiv Sooryavanshi, speaking briefly to the media after the revelation, could not hide his pride.

“When Vaibhav came running into the room and said ‘Papa, I’m playing tomorrow,’ time stopped for me. All the early mornings, the travels, the sacrifices flashed before my eyes. I told him there is no bigger stage than this, but the boy inside him remains the same. Play with freedom.”
