Top 25 Best-Selling Cars in India – December 2025 Sales Surge Revealed.

Top 25 Best-Selling Cars in India – December 2025 Sales Chart Revealed.

The Indian automobile market closed December 2025 on a high note, posting an impressive 25.8% year-on-year (YoY) growth in passenger vehicle sales. Strong year-end demand, festive season promotions, attractive discounts, and favorable tax incentives fueled this surge, benefiting especially sub-4m models and premium hatchbacks.

Maruti Baleno Takes the Top Spot

The Maruti Suzuki Baleno emerged as the best-selling car in India in December 2025, with 22,108 units sold. Its 143% year-on-year growth was one of the strongest performances among the leading models.

The Baleno's combination of premium styling, practical dimensions, fuel efficiency and competitive pricing continues to make it a popular choice among Indian buyers.

Maruti Fronx Continues Its Strong Run

The Maruti Fronx finished second with 20,706 units, almost doubling its sales compared with December 2024.

The crossover's SUV-inspired design, compact dimensions and premium positioning have helped it attract buyers looking for something more distinctive than a conventional hatchback.

Tata Nexon Holds Third Position

The Tata Nexon secured third place with 19,375 units. Sales increased by 43% year-on-year, underlining the continued popularity of compact SUVs in India.

Its combination of SUV styling, technology, safety-focused features and multiple powertrain choices has helped the Nexon remain one of Tata Motors' strongest sellers.

Mahindra Scorpio Beats Hyundai Creta

Another major highlight was the Mahindra Scorpio's performance.

The Scorpio recorded 15,885 units, comfortably ahead of the Hyundai Creta at 13,154 units. The result demonstrates the continued demand for rugged SUVs in the Indian market.

The Scorpio's strong road presence, spacious cabin and SUV character continue to attract buyers across urban and semi-urban markets.

SUVs Continue to Dominate Indian Car Sales

December's rankings demonstrate how strongly SUVs have influenced India's passenger vehicle market.

The Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza, Tata Punch, Mahindra Scorpio, Hyundai Creta, Mahindra XUV 3XO and Mahindra Thar all featured prominently in the top 25.

At the same time, premium hatchbacks such as the Baleno and Swift continued to perform strongly. This shows that Indian buyers are not choosing one body style exclusively; instead, they are increasingly looking for vehicles that combine practicality, technology, attractive styling and strong road presence.

Kia Sonet Records Massive Growth

The Kia Sonet was another major winner in December 2025.

With 9,418 units sold compared with 3,337 units in December 2024, the Sonet recorded an impressive 182% year-on-year increase.

The result places the Sonet among the month's fastest-growing models and highlights the intense competition in India's compact SUV segment.

Key Insights from December 2025 Car Sales

4. Hatchbacks Still Matter

Despite the SUV boom, cars such as the Baleno, Swift, Dzire, WagonR, Alto and Tiago remained important contributors to India's overall passenger vehicle sales.

5. New Models Add Competition

The appearance of the Maruti Victoris in the December ranking shows how quickly new models can make an impact in India's highly competitive SUV market.

What Could Shape the Indian Car Market in 2026?

The December 2025 sales figures provide an interesting starting point for 2026. Buyers are increasingly demanding more technology, improved safety equipment, connected features and efficient powertrains without moving too far away from affordable price points.

SUVs are expected to remain a major growth driver, particularly in the compact and midsize categories. Hybrid, electric and other fuel-efficient powertrains are also likely to receive increasing attention as manufacturers expand their portfolios.

New launches and updates to existing models could further reshape the sales rankings throughout 2026. The Tata Sierra, for example, is expected to attract considerable attention following the opening of bookings, with deliveries scheduled to begin in January 2026.

Maruti Suzuki dominated the charts, with the Baleno reclaiming the top spot as the best-selling car of the month (22,108 units, +143% YoY). The Fronx followed closely in second, while Tata Nexon held third. A notable shift saw the Mahindra Scorpio (including N and Classic variants) outsell the Hyundai Creta by a margin of 2,731 units (15,885 vs 13,154).

In the midsize SUV segment, Creta still leads, trailed by Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, and the newcomer Maruti Victoris. Excitingly, the Tata Sierra begins deliveries from January 15, 2026, with bookings already open.
