FC Goa Snatch Late 1-1 Draw vs Chennaiyin; Bengaluru FC Cruise to 3-1 Win Over Inter Kashi.

Indian Super League: FC Goa Snatch 1-1 Draw vs Chennaiyin FC Thanks to Sandesh Jhingan's Late Header; Bengaluru FC Secure 3-1 Win Over Inter Kashi Powered by Braian Sanchez Brace.

On Sunday, March 22, 2026, the Indian Super League delivered two contrasting yet compelling encounters that showcased the growing competitiveness of the league.
At the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai, FC Goa fought back to earn a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Chennaiyin FC through a dramatic late header from captain Sandesh Jhingan. Meanwhile, in Kolkata, Bengaluru FC claimed a convincing 3-1 victory over Inter Kashi FC, with Braian Sanchez scoring a clinical brace to propel them up the table.
These results kept the playoff race tight, with FC Goa maintaining their unbeaten run and Bengaluru climbing into the top four.

The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai hosted an intense battle under floodlights, with passionate home support urging Chennaiyin forward while the traveling Gaurs fans created pockets of noise in the stands.

FC Goa vs Chennaiyin FC: A Tense, Tactical Battle Ends in Stalemate

The first half at the Marina Beach venue was a classic example of two well-drilled sides cancelling each other out. Both teams probed cautiously, aware that a single mistake could prove costly in a tightly packed mid-table clash.
FC Goa created the game's first meaningful chance in the 8th minute. Forward Brison Fernandes latched onto a through ball and struck a low drive toward goal, but Chennaiyin goalkeeper Mohammad Nawaz gathered it comfortably, setting an early tone for his assured performance.

Chennaiyin responded swiftly. In the 11th minute, midfielder Maheson Singh unleashed a powerful shot from the edge of the box that cannoned off the post, leaving FC Goa goalkeeper Hrithik Tiwari rooted. Five minutes later, another long-range effort forced Tiwari into a superb diving save, tipping the ball over the bar.

The Gaurs threatened on the counter. Irfan Yadwad saw a shot blocked after cutting inside, while defender Pritam Kotal headed narrowly wide from a set-piece delivery. As the half wore on, Yadwad tested Tiwari again in the 37th minute, and at the other end, Chennaiyin's Dejan Drazic forced a sharp save from Nawaz with a curling attempt from distance.
Despite the half-chances and growing intensity, the scoreboard remained blank at halftime—0-0—with both defenses on top.

Second-Half Drama: Irfan's Opener and Jhingan's Heroics

Chennaiyin emerged with renewed purpose after the break and struck early. In the 48th minute, a misplaced pass from FC Goa's Sahil Tavora gifted possession to the Mariners. Irfan Yadwad pounced, racing clear before calmly slotting the ball into the bottom-left corner past Tiwari—1-0 to the home side.

The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium erupted as Irfan wheeled away in celebration, pointing to the badge. Chennaiyin continued to press, with Irfan forcing another save from a tight angle shortly afterward.
FC Goa, sensing the danger, made a triple substitution around the hour mark to inject fresh energy. The changes shifted momentum, with the Gaurs dominating possession and territory. However, Chennaiyin's backline—marshaled superbly—restricted them to long-range efforts. Aakash Sangwan fired over from distance and sent a direct free-kick narrowly wide.

As the clock ticked into the final stages, FC Goa earned a corner in the 87th minute. Dejan Drazic delivered an inviting ball, and captain Sandesh Jhingan rose highest above the crowd to power a thunderous header into the net—1-1.

Jhingan sprinted to the corner flag, arms pumping, as his teammates mobbed him. The equalizer was a testament to his leadership and aerial prowess, earning him the Player of the Match award.
In stoppage time, both sides pushed for a winner. Nawaz produced crucial saves to deny Abdul Rabeeh, while substitute Daniel Lalhlimpuia blazed over from inside the box. The final whistle confirmed a share of the spoils.

This draw marked FC Goa's third consecutive stalemate, keeping them unbeaten and in fourth place with 10 points. Chennaiyin remained in eleventh with 5 points, frustrated but showing signs of improvement.

Bengaluru FC vs Inter Kashi: Braian Sanchez Brace Seals Road Victory

Across the country in Kolkata, Bengaluru FC produced a professional performance to overcome Inter Kashi 3-1, moving them into fourth position—just three points behind league leaders Mumbai City FC.

The match began with an early setback for BFC as Ryan Williams suffered a muscle strain during warm-up and was replaced by Namgyal Bhutia, who made his first ISL start of the season.
Bengaluru quickly settled and dominated possession. In the 20th minute, Ashique Kuruniyan capitalized on a defensive error, pouncing on a loose ball and smashing a powerful left-footed shot into the roof of the net—1-0.

The lead lasted until the 38th minute. A slip from Bengaluru's Poojary allowed Alfred Moya to race through one-on-one with goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh. Despite getting a hand to the shot, Gurpreet couldn't keep it out, and Inter Kashi leveled at 1-1.

The teams went into halftime locked at 1-1.

BFC made a tactical tweak at the break, introducing Suresh Wangjam for Fanai, who was on a yellow card. The second half saw chances at both ends—Sunil Chhetri fired straight at the keeper in the 53rd minute after a lucky break.
The decisive moment arrived in the 69th minute. Ashique won a free-kick on the left flank. Siroj delivered the set-piece, and when Inter Kashi goalkeeper Tarres failed to claim it cleanly, Braian Sanchez rose to head home from close range—2-1 to Bengaluru.

With Inter Kashi pushing forward in search of an equalizer, gaps appeared. In the 90+8th minute, a misplaced pass from the Kashi keeper fell to Sanchez, who coolly chipped it first-time over the stranded custodian for his brace and Bengaluru's third goal—3-1.

Sanchez's clinical finishing and composure under pressure proved the difference, securing a vital three points on the road.

Broader Context and Standings Impact

Rahul Bheke reached a personal milestone with his 100th appearance for Bengaluru FC, adding to the significance of the win.
These results reflected the ISL's balance: FC Goa's resilience in grinding out points away from home, and Bengaluru's ability to capitalize on opposition errors while showing character after conceding.

FC Goa stay fourth with their unbeaten streak intact, while Bengaluru close the gap on the top spots. Chennaiyin and Inter Kashi, both in the lower half, showed fight but were ultimately undone by late moments of quality.

The Indian Super League continues to deliver drama, intensity, and standout individual performances as the season heats up toward the playoffs.
