India Women Beat Australia by 17 Runs in 3rd T20I, Win Series 2-1 & Lead Multiformat 4-2.

India Women vs Australia Women, 3rd T20I Highlights: Smriti Mandhana (82) & Jemimah Rodrigues (59) Power India to 17-Run Win, Seal T20I Series & Lead Multiformat Battle 4-2.

In a dominant display of batting firepower and disciplined bowling, India Women clinched a thrilling 17-run victory over Australia Women in the third and final T20I at the Adelaide Oval on Saturday, February 21, 2026.
Chasing a challenging 177, Australia were restricted to 159/9 in their 20 overs, handing India the T20I series 2-1 and extending their overall multiformat series lead to 4-2. This historic result marked India's first bilateral T20I series win on Australian soil and a significant milestone in their quest to challenge the world champions across formats.

India's Batting Brilliance: Mandhana & Rodrigues Steer Ship to 176/6

Electing to bat first after winning the toss, India captain Harmanpreet Kaur set the tone for an aggressive approach. Openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma provided a solid platform, but Shafali (7 off 8) fell early in the second over to Kim Garth, caught at mid-off attempting a lofted drive.

Mandhana, however, was in imperious form. The left-hander played with trademark elegance and aggression, mixing crisp drives, lofted covers, and powerful pulls. She brought up her half-century off just 34 balls and accelerated in the middle overs, reaching 82 off 55 deliveries (10 fours, 3 sixes) before being dismissed by Annabel Sutherland in the 17th over, caught at long-on.

At the other end, Jemimah Rodrigues anchored the innings with composure and flair. Coming in at No. 3, she built partnerships, rotated strike effectively, and unleashed trademark inside-out drives and sweeps. Rodrigues scored a fluent 59 off 46 balls (6 fours, 1 six) before falling in the final over to Sophie Molineux.

India lost wickets at regular intervals in the death overs—Richa Ghosh (quick cameo), Deepti Sharma, and others—but the platform laid by Mandhana and Rodrigues ensured a competitive total of 176/6 in 20 overs. Key contributions included:Smriti Mandhana: 82 (55) – Player of the Match contender
Jemimah Rodrigues: 59 (46)

Late cameos from Amanjot Kaur and others

Australia's bowlers, led by Garth (2/28), Sutherland (2/32), and Molineux (1/35), kept the scoring in check during phases but couldn't prevent India from posting their highest total of the series.

Australia's Chase: Early Collapse, Gardner Heroics, but Fall Short at 159/9

Australia made a blazing start, with Georgia Voll and Beth Mooney plundering 18 runs off the first over from Renuka Singh. However, Shreyanka Patil struck back immediately in the second over, dismissing Voll (caught at cover). Mooney followed soon after, bowled by Patil attempting a sweep, and Ellyse Perry was cleaned up in the next over—three wickets in the powerplay for just 32 runs left Australia reeling at 32/3.

Phoebe Litchfield and Ashleigh Gardner then staged a strong recovery. Litchfield played positively while Gardner unleashed her trademark power-hitting. The pair added 68 crucial runs before Shree Charani broke the stand by dismissing Litchfield (caught at deep midwicket).

Gardner reached a fighting half-century (off 38 balls), looking dangerous with boundaries flowing. But just as Australia threatened a late surge, Arundhati Reddy removed Georgia Wareham (lbw attempting a reverse sweep), halting momentum. Gardner fell in the 18th over to Deepti Sharma (caught long-on), and Grace Harris was bizarrely run out hit-wicket in the same over while backing up too far.

Lower-order resistance from Tahlia McGrath and others fell short as India’s bowlers—Patil (3/22), Reddy (2/28), Charani (2/30), and Deepti (1/25)—maintained tight lines and clever variations. Australia finished at 159/9, 17 runs short.

Key Performances & Turning PointsSmriti Mandhana – Masterclass of 82 set the platform.

Jemimah Rodrigues – Stabilized and accelerated.
Shreyanka Patil – 3/22 in powerplay turned the chase.
Ashleigh Gardner – 56 (42) kept Australia alive but fell at crucial juncture.
Arundhati Reddy & Shree Charani – Death-over control and key wickets.

Post-Match Reactions

Harmanpreet Kaur praised her batters for stepping up and bowlers for executing plans under pressure. “This win in Australia is special. Smriti and Jemimah showed class, and our spinners were brilliant,” she said.

Australia captain Sophie Molineux acknowledged India's superior performance. “We fought hard but lost too many early wickets. Credit to India—they deserved it.”

Series & Multiformat Context

With the T20I series won 2-1, India now lead the multiformat battle 4-2 (including previous ODIs and one-off Tests). The result is a massive confidence boost ahead of future tours and ICC events. India had never won a bilateral T20I series in Australia before this triumph.
