Monaco 1-0 PSG: Minamino Stunner & Pogba Return Shock Ligue 1 Leaders.

Monaco 1-0 Paris Saint-Germain: Minamino Magic Stuns Ligue 1 Leaders in Riveting Upset.

In one of the most dramatic nights the Principality has witnessed in years, AS Monaco defeated Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 to inflict only the second league defeat on the reigning champions in the entire 2025 calendar year.
Takumi Minamino’s exquisite 68th-minute strike — his seventh goal of the season — was enough to separate the sides, but the story was so much richer than a single goal.

From Paul Pogba’s emotional return to the Stade Louis-II pitch after 987 days away, to Thilo Kehrer’s harsh red card, to PSG throwing everything at a stubborn Monaco defence in nine minutes of stoppage time, this was classic Ligue 1 theatre.
Pre-Match Context: A Rejuvenated Monaco vs. An Almost Unbeatable PSG

Heading into Matchday 14, PSG sat pretty at the summit with 36 points from 13 games (11 wins, 3 draws), having dropped points only once — a 1-1 draw at Nice in October. Luis Enrique’s side were unbeaten in their last 27 Ligue 1 matches dating back to February 2025 and had won their previous seven away games in all competitions.

Monaco, under Adi Hütter, were the wildcard. Sixth place with 24 points, they had just demolished Marseille 3-0 the previous weekend and were unbeaten in their last six home league games. More importantly, they had a fully fit squad for the first time in months — and a certain Paul Pogba finally available for selection at the Stade Louis-II for the first time since his shock January 2025 move from Juventus following the reduction of his doping ban.

The team news confirmed the hype:

Monaco (4-2-3-1): Köhn — Vanderson, Singo, Salisu, Caio Henrique — Camara, Zakaria — Akliouche, Ben Seghir, Golovin — Minamino Bench: Majecki, Kehrer, Embolo, Ilenikhena, Ouattara, Pogba, Matazo, Platret, Efekele

PSG (4-3-3): Donnarumma — Hakimi, Marquinhos, Pacho, Nuno Mendes — João Neves, Vitinha, Fabian Ruiz — Barcola, Dembélé, Lee Kang-in Bench: Safonov, Beraldo, Zague, Mbaye, Kvaratskhelia, Asensio, Doué, Mayulu, Mukiele

Notably absent for PSG: Kylian Mbappé (long gone to Real Madrid), Gonçalo Ramos (injured), and Warren Zaïre-Emery (suspended). Monaco, meanwhile, kept faith with the attacking quartet that tore Marseille apart.

First Half: Chess Match at the Louis-II

0–0 at the break, but far from dull.

Monaco started aggressively, pressing PSG high and forcing early errors from Marquinhos and Pacho. In the 8th minute, Golovin robbed Vitinha 30 yards out and slid Minamino through — Donnarumma raced off his line to smother brilliantly. Three minutes later, Ben Seghir’s curling effort from the left channel kissed the far post with Donnarumma beaten.

PSG grew into the game through Hakimi’s overlapping runs and Dembélé’s directness, but they lacked penetration. Barcola dragged a shot wide on 21', and Lee Kang-in’s clever flick was cleared off the line by Salisu on 33'. The best chance fell to Dembélé in the 41st minute: João Neves threaded him clean through, but Philipp Köhn stood tall with a superb one-on-one save.

Second Half: Minamino Breaks the Deadlock, Kehrer Sees Red, Pogba Returns

53' — Monaco threaten again. Caio Henrique’s whipped cross is met by Minamino, whose volley is blocked heroically by Marquinhos.

68' — GOAL! MONACO 1-0 PSG (Takumi Minamino, assist Golovin) A moment of pure quality. Golovin receives from Zakaria on the left touchline, looks up, and floats a perfect outside-of-the-boot cross to the back post. Minamino takes one touch to set himself and rifles a low drive across Donnarumma into the bottom far corner. The Louis-II erupts — the Japanese forward wheels away pointing to Golovin in celebration.

70' — Luis Enrique reacts instantly: Kvaratskhelia and Ibrahim Mbaye on for Lee Kang-in and Fabian Ruiz.

80' — RED CARD! Thilo Kehrer (Monaco) Substitute Kehrer, on for Vanderson just five minutes earlier, misjudges a long ball over the top. Mbaye is clean through; Kehrer clips his heel as the last man. Initially booked, the referee goes to the monitor after VAR intervention and upgrades it to red. Monaco down to ten with ten minutes plus stoppages remaining.

82' — The moment everyone had waited for: Paul Pogba replaces Eliesse Ben Seghir. His first home appearance for Monaco. The stadium rises as one — chants of “Po-gba! Po-gba!” echo around the stands. He almost scores with his first touch — a 25-yard free-kick that forces Donnarumma into a flying save.

85'–90+9' — PSG siege. Wave after wave crashes against the Monaco defence.
86' Vitinha volley saved low by Köhn
88' Hakimi cross just evades Kvaratskhelia
90+2' João Neves header loops inches wide
90+5' Kvaratskhelia curls one just past the post
90+7' Köhn produces a world-class double save from Dembélé and Mbaye
90+9' Final chance — Marquinhos heads over from a corner

Full-time: Monaco 1-0 PSG

Key Talking Points
Takumi Minamino: The Silent Assassin Seven goals and four assists in 14 Ligue 1 games — the Japanese star is enjoying the best season of his career. His movement, finishing, and work-rate were exemplary.

Philipp Köhn: Hero Between the Sticks Without his nine saves — several of the world-class variety — PSG would have scored three or four. Monaco’s Swiss goalkeeper is finally delivering on the promise that made him one of Europe’s most sought-after shot-stoppers two years ago.

Paul Pogba: 987 Days Later… Only 13 minutes on the clock, but the roar when he stepped onto the pitch told you everything. Nearly scored with a free-kick, won three aerial duels, and brought calm in the storm. The comeback story continues.
PSG’s Blunt Attack Exposed Again Nineteen shots, 1.91 xG, zero goals. Without a recognised No.9 (Ramos injured, Barcola still raw centrally), PSG struggled desperately to convert dominance into goals. Kvaratskhelia looked lively off the bench, but the lack of a clinical finisher is becoming a serious issue.

Title Race Blown Wide Open? Marseille can leapfrog PSG into first place with victory over Toulouse later tonight. Suddenly, after 18 months of near-total domination, Luis Enrique’s side look vulnerable.

Post-Match Reaction

Adi Hütter: “This is one of the greatest nights in Monaco’s recent history. The players showed incredible heart, especially with ten men. Paul’s return gave everyone extra energy.”

Luis Enrique: “We had enough chances to win three games. Football can be cruel sometimes. We must learn and come back stronger.”

Paul Pogba (to Canal+): “I had goosebumps when the fans sang my name. This is why I came back — for nights like this.”

What It Means
Monaco climb to 5th (27 pts) and are now genuine top-four contenders.
PSG stay on 36 points but could drop to 2nd by midnight.
First home win over PSG since 2018.

First time PSG have failed to score in a Ligue 1 match since April 2024.

The Principality is rocking. Ligue 1 just got very, very interesting.
