Apple Unveils macOS Tahoe 26 with Stunning Design and Spotlight Overhaul. Apple Announces macOS Tahoe 26 with New Design and Revamped Search Features.At its WWDC 2025 keynote, Apple unveiled macOS Tahoe 26, the next major update to its desktop operating system.
The new version introduces a fresh design language, enhanced Spotlight search, a dedicated Phone app, and an all-new Games launcher with overlay functionality.
Scheduled for release in fall 2025, Tahoe 26 will be available for all Apple silicon-based Macs as well as select Intel-based Macs with a T2 Security chip. Developers can access the beta starting today, with a public beta expected next month.
A Numbered macOS for the First Time
Apple is sticking with its California-themed naming convention, but for the first time, it’s adding a version number—macOS 26—to align with its yearly update cycle. While 2025 is the announcement year, most of macOS 26’s lifespan will be in 2026, similar to how car model years work.
This follows last year’s macOS 15 Sequoia, which introduced features like iPhone mirroring, window tiling, and early Apple Intelligence integration.
A Complete Visual Overhaul with Liquid Glass Aesthetic
The biggest change in macOS Tahoe 26 is its redesigned interface, adopting Apple’s new Liquid Glass design language, also showcased at WWDC 2025. This aesthetic brings glass-like translucency to:The DockToolbarsApp iconsWidgetsSystem-wide color themingUsers can now theme their Mac with color-matched folders and app icons, similar to iOS. New Phone App for Mac with Continuity Features

Make and receive calls via Continuity with a paired iPhone
Access Favorites, Recents, and Voicemail
Use Call Screening and Hold Assist
View Live Activities (e.g., Uber status, food delivery updates) in the menu bar
This eliminates the need to rely solely on FaceTime for calls, integrating iPhone functionality more deeply into the Mac.
Spotlight’s Biggest Upgrade YetApple has completely revamped Spotlight, turning it into a powerful productivity hub. New features include:1.
