Kerala Blasters vs East Bengal Highlights: KBFC 2-1 EBFC, Peprah Nets Winner in ISL 2024-25.

The Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 season continues to deliver intense action, with Kerala Blasters FC securing their first victory of the campaign by defeating East Bengal FC 2-1 in a thrilling encounter at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Kochi. Kwame Peprah was the hero for Kerala Blasters, scoring the winning goal just minutes before the end of regulation time.

The match was filled with dramatic moments, a strong fightback from both sides, and exceptional individual performances, leaving fans in Kochi with plenty to celebrate.

First Half: Both Teams Goalless but Lively

The first half of the Kerala Blasters vs East Bengal clash was marked by a high tempo from the start, with both teams pressing for an early breakthrough. Kerala Blasters, urged on by their home crowd, came out with an attacking mindset, but East Bengal’s defence held strong, preventing any early goals.

As the match settled, it became clear that both sides were determined to take control of the game. In the 39th minute, Kerala Blasters created their best chance of the half when Sandeep Singh delivered a pinpoint cross into the box. Rahul KP, however, missed a golden opportunity to head the ball into the net, sending it wide. The miss left Kerala Blasters fans sighing in frustration, as it could have given them the lead.

East Bengal had their moments too, especially in the 44th minute when Mahesh Singh’s cross from the left flank found its way to the far post. Nandhakumar Sekar was waiting to pounce on the opportunity, but a crucial interception from Naocha Singh denied East Bengal what looked like a clear chance to go ahead.

Both teams went into the halftime break with the scoreline locked at 0-0. Despite several close chances, the deadlock remained unbroken, but the excitement was far from over.

Second Half: Action-Packed, Three Goals in Quick Succession

The second half kicked off with renewed energy from both sides. Kerala Blasters looked more threatening as they kept pushing forward, seeking to make the most of their home advantage. However, it was East Bengal who drew first blood in the 59th minute.

East Bengal’s goal came through a well-executed counterattack. Dimitrios Diamantakos made a quick run into the Kerala Blasters’ penalty box and delivered a perfect assist for Vishnu, who calmly tapped the ball into the net, putting East Bengal ahead 1-0. The goal was a testament to East Bengal's ability to capitalise on defensive lapses and transition rapidly from defence to attack.

Kerala Blasters, however, were not going to back down. Just four minutes later, in the 63rd minute, Noah Wail Sadaoui levelled the score for the home side. Receiving the ball on the left flank, Sadaoui dazzled the East Bengal defence, sidestepping Rakip before unleashing a powerful shot that found the back of the net. The goal brought the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium to life, as the Blasters' faithful erupted in cheers. It was a moment of individual brilliance from Sadaoui, showcasing his composure and skill in front of goal.

The Decisive Moment: Peprah’s Late Winner

With the scores tied at 1-1, the match was perfectly poised for a dramatic conclusion. Both teams made substitutions in the final quarter of the game to add fresh legs and attacking intent. Kerala Blasters introduced Kwame Peprah and Azhar as they aimed to find a late winner. The tactical changes paid off handsomely.

In the 88th minute, Kerala Blasters struck the decisive blow. Kwame Peprah, who had come on as a substitute, found himself in the right place at the right time. Following a defensive error by East Bengal’s Anwar Ali, the ball fell kindly to Peprah in the penalty box. With composure, he took his shot, sending the ball past East Bengal goalkeeper Prabhsukhan Gill and into the net. The East Bengal defenders were left standing still, unable to react to the quick turn of events.

Peprah’s goal proved to be the difference-maker, and with just two minutes of regulation time remaining, it all but sealed the win for Kerala Blasters. The stadium erupted once again, this time in sheer jubilation, as the home side edged closer to securing their first victory of the season.

Final Whistle: Kerala Blasters Hold on for the Win

As the match entered injury time, Kerala Blasters adopted a defensive approach, keen to hold onto their slim 2-1 advantage. East Bengal, mentally drained and physically exhausted, struggled to mount a serious comeback in the dying moments of the game. Their coach, Carles Cuadrat, could be seen shaking his head in disappointment as his team’s earlier efforts began to unravel.

Despite a late attempt by Noah Sadaoui to add a third goal for Kerala Blasters, the East Bengal defence managed to thwart the danger, with goalkeeper Gill intercepting a loose ball in the penalty box. The final whistle blew, confirming Kerala Blasters’ 2-1 victory over East Bengal.

It was a crucial win for Kerala Blasters, who had started their ISL 2024-25 campaign on the back foot. This victory not only provided them with much-needed confidence but also showed the depth and resilience within the squad, especially with substitute Kwame Peprah making a decisive impact.

Key Performances: Sadaoui and Peprah Shine

Noah Wail Sadaoui was undoubtedly one of the standout performers for Kerala Blasters. His equalising goal was a moment of pure skill, as he effortlessly beat the East Bengal defenders to score. Sadaoui’s constant movement and ability to create chances made him a key threat throughout the match, and his goal sparked the Blasters' comeback.

Kwame Peprah, however, stole the headlines with his late winner. Coming off the bench to score the match-winning goal, Peprah demonstrated his poaching instincts and cool-headedness in front of goal. His contribution in the final stages of the game was vital, earning him the title of Kerala Blasters' match-winner.

East Bengal’s Missed Opportunity

For East Bengal, the defeat was a bitter pill to swallow. After taking the lead through Vishnu’s goal in the second half, they looked poised to claim all three points. However, lapses in concentration and defensive errors cost them dearly. Anwar Ali’s mistake in the 88th minute, which led to Peprah’s winner, will surely be a moment the team reflects on with regret.

Coach Carles Cuadrat will need to address his team’s defensive frailties and ensure they maintain their focus for the full 90 minutes in future matches if they are to compete at the top of the ISL table.

Kerala Blasters’ 2-1 victory over East Bengal was a thrilling encounter that showcased the unpredictability and excitement of the Indian Super League. Kwame Peprah’s late winner secured all three points for Kerala, marking their first win of the 2024-25 season. Both teams played with intensity, but in the end, it was the Blasters who emerged victorious, much to the delight of their passionate supporters in Kochi.
