The Cricket Advisory Committee comprising Mr Ashok Malhotra, Mr Jatin Paranjpe, and Ms Sulakshana Naik made a significant decision on Tuesday, unanimously recommending Mr Gautam Gambhir as the Head Coach of Team India (Senior Men). This appointment comes ahead of the upcoming away series against Sri Lanka, where Team India is scheduled to play 3 ODIs & 3 T20Is starting July 27, 2024. The decision to appoint Mr Gambhir follows the conclusion of Mr Rahul Dravid’s successful tenure after the ICC T20 World Cup, 2024.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) expressed its gratitude to Mr Dravid for his exceptional service as Head Coach, citing achievements such as winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, 2024, and finishing as runners-up in the ICC 50-over World Cup, 2023, hosted in India. Mr Paras Mhambrey (Bowling Coach), Mr T. Dilip (Fielding Coach), and Mr Vikram Rathour (Batting Coach) also received commendation for their contributions during their tenure.

Gautam Gambhir, known for his outstanding batting prowess and strategic acumen, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. His career highlights include pivotal performances in the 2007 ICC World T20 and the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup, both of which solidified his status as a cricketing legend. Gambhir’s leadership qualities were further exemplified during his tenure as captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), leading them to IPL title victories in 2012 and 2014, and as a mentor contributing to their 2024 IPL triumph.

In his capacity as the Head Coach of Team India, Mr Gambhir will be tasked with overseeing the team’s development and performance. His focus will extend beyond on-field strategies to cultivating a culture of excellence, discipline, and teamwork.
