I first got into City because of David Silva. I always played growing up but I was never really a fan of watching on television. That was until the 2010 World Cup. I fell in love with watching that Spain team and David Silva in particular. He was one of a few players that I knew was either going to City or had just joined (Carlos Tevez, Yaya Toure etc.) So my bond with the club has only continued to grow since then. We tend to watch most games at R&D Brewing in Raleigh with the local supporters group. Depending on the game times. If there’s an early kick-off we’ll just watch from home, and I’ll try my best not to cheer too loud and wake up the baby.
We've had so many incredible moments over the last 15 or so years. From the Aguero moment, Vinny’s goal against Leicester, the Villa game, and of course the Treble! But honestly, I’d say my favourite moment was the first time I went to the Etihad ten years ago. A 4-1 win against Southampton during the 13-14 season. I do have a feeling that this answer may change to the day I get to bring my wife and our boys to the Etihad for the first time. I can’t wait for that. Having City play here locally is everything! I couldn’t believe the news when it first came out. It was surreal seeing the posts that they had landed in Raleigh. Being able to meet other City fans from supporters’ groups that came from out of state was also awesome!

My son has always talked about wanting to see Haaland in person, so it definitely made his day when we saw him at the open practice and the game! Growing up in Brazil, soccer was everything. I grew up going to São Paulo games with my brothers. It wasn’t until I did an exchange student programme and met Billy (now my husband) that I got into the Premier League. He introduced me to City and I fell in love with the club instantly since they had my favourite player of all time, Fernandinho. I have been following the team since.
I have so many amazing memories! The Treble is for sure something we can’t forget. Aguero's goal at 93:20 is historic. I think that winning the Champions League was extremely emotional and one of my favourite memories. It means everything to have City here! City played right in our backyard! Having the chance to see Haaland, Grealish, Pep, and my Brazilian goalie Ederson was incredible. On top of that, because we are part of the official supporters’ group, we got to be part of exclusive events here in town where we got pictures with the Premier League trophy and got to meet former players. Just amazing.

Our five-year-old was super excited and worked hard on his little signs for Haaland (his favourite player). Billy and I also loved seeing the young guys on the pitch. It was a great experience having the club in North Carolina. I will never forget it. I hope we can make a trip to Manchester soon to watch City play at the Etihad. We are excited for the season ahead. Let’s make it five in a row!
Being a part of the City supporters' group in Raleigh has been such a rewarding experience. We’ve built a community of passionate fans who come together to celebrate every win and console each other after losses. There’s something special about watching a match with fellow supporters who share the same love for the team. The camaraderie and shared excitement make every game an event to remember. Whether it’s an early morning match or a late-night fixture, the energy is always electric at R&D Brewing.
My journey with City started with David Silva, but it has grown into a family affair. My wife and kids have all become avid fans, and it’s something we bond over. Watching my son’s eyes light up when he sees his heroes on the screen or, even better, in person, is priceless. Football is more than just a game for us; it’s a way to connect and create lasting memories. I can’t wait for the day we all go to the Etihad together. It’s going to be a dream come true, not just for me but for my entire family.
Reflecting on the incredible moments we’ve witnessed, it’s hard to pick just one favourite. The Aguero moment will forever be etched in my mind, but there’s also Vinny’s goal against Leicester, which was a turning point in that season. The Villa game was a rollercoaster of emotions, and the Treble was the pinnacle of all our hard work and dedication. Each of these moments has a special place in my heart, and I feel so fortunate to have experienced them as a City fan.
The impact of having City play locally in Raleigh cannot be overstated. It brought the excitement of the Premier League right to our doorstep. The atmosphere at the open practice and the game was electric, and it was fantastic to see so many fans come together to support the team. Meeting other City supporters from different parts of the country was a highlight. It felt like a big family reunion, and it reinforced the sense of community that comes with being a City fan.
For my wife, growing up in Brazil meant that football was a way of life. She brings that same passion to supporting City, and it’s been amazing to see her enthusiasm grow over the years. She’s made countless friends through the supporters’ group, and together, we’ve built a network of fellow fans who are just as dedicated to the team as we are. Watching the games together, celebrating wins, and commiserating losses has become a cherished part of our lives.
As we look forward to the upcoming season, our excitement is palpable. The prospect of another title, another piece of silverware, and more unforgettable moments keeps us on the edge of our seats. The journey with City has been incredible so far, and we know there’s so much more to come. Let’s make it five in a row and continue to build on the legacy that has brought so much joy and pride to our lives.
Being a City fan is not just about the wins and the trophies; it’s about the experiences, the friendships, and the memories we create along the way. The O'Connor family’s journey with City has been filled with incredible moments and a sense of belonging that transcends the game itself. From the first time I saw David Silva play to the present day, our love for City has only grown stronger. Here’s to many more years of supporting the best team in the world. Love this City!
