"Protecting India's Future: Manmohan Singh's Urgent Call to Voters"

"Final Chance To Protect Nation From...": Manmohan Singh's Urgent Appeal

In his three-page open letter, former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has issued a poignant plea to Punjab voters ahead of the final phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha election. Singh, a stalwart of the Congress party, appeals to voters to seize what he calls the "final chance" to safeguard India's democracy and Constitution from what he perceives as repeated assaults by the current regime under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP.

Singh, who played a pivotal role in the liberalization of the Indian economy in 1991, expresses deep concern over what he describes as "unimaginable turmoil" in the country's economic landscape over the past decade. He attributes this turmoil to the policies enacted during the two terms of Prime Minister Modi, highlighting issues such as the "demonetisation disaster," a "flawed GST," and mismanagement during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The former Prime Minister contrasts the economic performance of the Congress-led UPA government with that of the BJP, particularly focusing on GDP growth rates. He asserts that under the BJP government, average GDP growth has plummeted to below six percent, whereas during the Congress-UPA tenure, it averaged around eight percent. Singh also draws attention to unprecedented levels of unemployment and inflation, which he claims have widened inequality to a 100-year high.

Singh's letter, strategically released alongside key economic reports, aims to underscore the Congress party's commitment to addressing economic challenges. He emphasizes the need to protect the purchasing power of the people, citing a historic depletion of household savings under BJP rule.

Addressing contentious issues such as the farmers' protests, Singh reproaches the government for its handling of the situation and pledges support for farmers' demands. He highlights the UPA government's initiatives, including loan waivers and increased minimum support prices, aimed at alleviating farmers' distress.

Singh also raises concerns about income disparity and unemployment, promising "course corrections" through the Congress party's manifesto. He outlines plans to address youth unemployment, including the reservation of government job vacancies for women and the establishment of fast-track courts for exam paper leak cases.

In his letter, Singh launches a scathing attack on the BJP's Agnipath military recruitment scheme, vowing to scrap it if the Congress comes to power. He accuses the BJP of undermining the values of patriotism and service.

In his appeal to Punjab voters, Singh invokes the state's historical spirit of sacrifice and calls upon its residents to protect India's democratic ethos. He urges voters to reject what he perceives as divisive politics and save the nation from discord.

Finally, Singh takes a swipe at Prime Minister Modi, accusing him of lowering the standards of public discourse with divisive rhetoric. He warns voters against narratives of dehumanization and calls upon them to save the nation from forces of discord.

In conclusion, Dr. Manmohan Singh's open letter serves as a poignant reminder of the challenges facing India and the urgent need for responsible governance. His appeal to voters reflects a deep concern for the nation's future and a call to action to protect its democratic values.
