Rajasthan Royals Chase 210 in Record Time as 14-Year-Old Vaibhav Suryavanshi Stuns Gujarat Titans with Historic Century.

Match Summary

Rajasthan Royals 212 for 2 (Suryavanshi 101, Jaiswal 70, Parag 32*, Rashid 1-24) beat Gujarat Titans 209 for 4 (Gill 84, Buttler 50*, Theekshana 2-35) by eight wickets*

In what can only be described as a breathtaking exhibition of fearless batting, Rajasthan Royals (RR) stunned Gujarat Titans (GT) in a record-breaking IPL 2025 clash, chasing down 210 in just 15.5 overs. The architect of this sensational win was 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who scripted history with an astonishing 101 off 38 balls.

This was only Suryavanshi's third IPL match, yet he managed to humble the most seasoned bowlers from arguably the best bowling unit in this edition of the IPL. His knock shattered multiple records, making him the youngest centurion in T20 history, among the youngest in all representative cricket, and the scorer of the second-fastest century in the IPL. His innings included 11 sixes—the joint-most by an Indian in a single IPL innings—and he achieved a staggering boundary percentage, scoring 94 of his runs via boundaries.

Not only did Suryavanshi’s century lead RR to victory, but it also marked the fastest successful chase of a 200+ total in IPL history. The chase came after Rajasthan had previously lost three consecutive matches despite being in strong positions across those games. This result was redemption at its finest.

While Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 70* off 40 balls was an innings worthy of praise in any other match, even he acknowledged that Suryavanshi stole the show. “It’s one of the best innings I have ever seen,” Jaiswal said post-match. His own knock, though overshadowed, was filled with grace and stability that allowed Suryavanshi to attack with freedom.

Suryavanshi attempted to hit boundaries on 26 of the 38 deliveries he faced, connecting cleanly with 15. Even his false shots yielded 25 runs. His six over long-off against Prasidh Krishna’s deceptive slower ball stood out—a blend of impeccable timing, immense bat speed, and sheer confidence.

Gujarat Titans Continue Top-Order Dominance

Despite the loss, GT’s top order performed admirably. Shubman Gill, who scored 84, set the tone with a flurry of boundaries, while B Sai Sudharsan contributed 39. This partnership marked their fifth 50+ stand in just nine innings. Their methodical approach has kept them among the most consistent top orders in IPL 2025.

However, the middle overs saw a temporary slowdown as Wanindu Hasaranga bowled three tight overs with no boundaries. Still, Gill broke the lull in the 14th over with back-to-back sixes. Jos Buttler, starting slow at 7 off 10, found his rhythm and smashed Hasaranga and Archer in consecutive overs. RR managed to pull things back slightly in the death overs, conceding just 21 runs in the last two.

Suryavanshi’s Special Innings

Suryavanshi began his innings with aggressive intent. Facing Mohammed Siraj, who has had an excellent IPL season with 12 wickets, he lofted a length ball over long-on for six—his first definitive statement. The next over saw Jaiswal dropped, after which he scored 18 runs in a single over.

By the end of the third over, it was clear that Suryavanshi wasn’t just a prodigy, but a force. He took on Ishant Sharma, who debuted for India before Suryavanshi was born. A hook for six, a whip over midwicket, a mis-hit that still cleared mid-off, and a flying top edge—all contributed to his growing legend.

Youth Trumps Experience

With Rashid Khan captaining the GT side in Gill’s absence due to back spasms, tactical shifts were made to counter the left-handed duo of Jaiswal and Suryavanshi. Washington Sundar was introduced, but he too was taken to the cleaners—pulls, sweeps, and drives flowed from Suryavanshi’s bat. He reached his fifty in just 17 balls, the fastest of IPL 2025.

Even quality bowlers like Prasidh Krishna and Rashid Khan could only contain the damage for brief periods. Krishna's hard lengths and slower deliveries were dispatched with disdain. One particular shot—a six over long-off off the back foot—will be remembered as the defining image of this IPL.

Century with a Six

Needing just six runs to reach his century, Suryavanshi found himself facing Rashid Khan—widely regarded as one of the greatest T20 bowlers of all time. Fittingly, he brought up his ton with a towering six off Rashid’s tight line and length, finally managing to break his stranglehold after several failed attempts.

Rashid remained the only bowler to maintain some control, returning with figures of 1 for 24. Suryavanshi was eventually dismissed by Prasidh Krishna with a pinpoint yorker, but the damage had been done. As he walked back, the stadium rose to its feet. Just a few weeks ago, the boy had walked back tearfully after a promising debut. Now, he had left the cricketing world awestruck.

Legacy in the Making

Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s innings evoked memories of teenage greats in cricketing folklore. From Tendulkar’s debut heroics to Afridi’s youthful six-hitting sprees, fans will now speak of Suryavanshi’s brilliance in the same breath.

RR’s win not only reignited their campaign but also gave Indian cricket a glimpse of the future. With Jaiswal back in form, Parag continuing his resurgence, and Suryavanshi offering a once-in-a-generation talent, the Royals have found the X-factor they had been missing.

Even in defeat, Gujarat Titans remain a formidable side. Their top-order consistency, combined with the depth provided by Buttler, Theekshana, and others, ensures they’ll bounce back stronger. But for now, all the headlines, applause, and marvels belong to one name: Vaibhav Suryavanshi.
